10-Feb-2004

Dear friends and fans -

This month I'm stepping into the Wayback Machine for some retro gigs:

Sunday Feb 15th @ 5pm I'll be at the Orpheum Theatre in Boston, playing in a 70s-style string section for The Valentine's Big Show, featuring The Stylistics with Russell Thompkins, Jr., The Manhattans, Ray, Goodman, and Brown, The Persuaders, The Soul Generation, The Escorts, Mac Fadden and Whitehead, and The Ebonys.

Saturday Feb 28th @ 10pm at the Lizard Lounge in Cambridge, come hear the songs of Jacques Brel (no longer alive and well...) as they were meant to be sung: the flamboyant, in-your-face stylings of Ad Frank et les Flamandes (including Betty on 5-string electric violin) doing a set of all Jacques Brel covers (in English, French and Flemish). Also appearing will be Ziaf (All the Queen's Men exploring the works of Edith Piaf) and Sitar Tabla Power (featuring Chris and Deb Mascara). Il sera magnifique!

Other News

Last month I recorded some tracks for the upcoming CD release of local band Grubstake. Currently I'm working on violin parts for several songs on singer/songwriter Lisa Bastoni's new CD (check her out opening for Catie Curtis at the Bull Run this Friday, February 13th - if it doesn't snow again!). And after that I will be doing another session for songwriter Jeff Washer.

Paula Kelley's album The Trouble with Success or How You Fit into the World, on which I played in the PK Orchestra, has just been released in Europe by French distributor Polaris, and received a 3 1/2 star review in the French edition of Rolling Stone! Paula and the band will be doing a brief French tour in early March (not including me, alas - but my violin flight case may go!).

That's it for now - I hope to see you at a show!
